Awakening to a Deeper Relationship with Intelligence

If you were to look up the definition of intelligence in a dictionary, you would find “the ability to understand and learn well, and to form judgements and opinions based on reason”. I find this unusually limiting especially as we have become familiar with the concept of emotional intelligence which fails to fit into this definition. Emotional intelligence is categorised under a different definition: “the ability to understand the way people feel and react and to use this skill to make good judgements and to avoid or solve problems”. We are also familiar with the definition of artificial intelligence, AI, which we describe as distinct from human intelligence, (even if we acknowledge that the original content that AI links with is derived from human thought).

However, we exist in a field of enormous intelligence that defies any attempts at such simplified definitions and the existence of which we are rarely aware of. As well as the activities of our everyday waking mind, both conscious and subconscious/ unconscious, we coexist with the extraordinary intelligence of the human body which is monitoring, responding, regulating and harmonising with an ever-changing set of environmental factors as we go about our day. This is in fact a complex intelligence in his own right. It also goes beyond the functional, physical level and includes the subtle energetic connection with the field of life in nature.

The earth is always communicating with us on a subtle energetic level. This happens through the flow of energy to which our bodies are connected, multiple frequencies of energy ranging from electromagnetic to increasingly subtle and interdimensional energies. The subtle energetics of the human body are incredibly complex in their nature and function. They are our bridge to the quantum field and a direct interface between the subtle field of consciousness of this earth and of our cellular DNA. We can open to the innate intelligence of our bodies and learn to trust in its wisdom and knowing through our faculties of feeling and even intuition. If we can open our definition of intelligence to go beyond reason or rational thought, we can become aware of deeper layers of intelligence that exist within states such as being, presence and connection.

The limitations of our current definitions of intelligence deprives us of the ability to perceive intelligence as it presents itself to us in different forms. If it is not wearing the costume of reason and logic or even the function of relatable language, we dismiss it as lacking intelligence. We have done this to nature and animals for generations, dismissing their inherent intelligence because it does not conform to our narrow definition. We have also done this to fellow humans who may be non-verbal and unable to communicate their experience in ways that we expect.

The limitations of our current definitions of intelligence deprives us of the ability to perceive intelligence as it presents itself to us in different forms.

We find it very difficult to be open to fields of intelligence that exist beyond our experience and yet our body is doing this all the time. Through a deeper connection to our body, we can open our field of intelligence, first through feeling and eventually through cognitive open intelligence such as visualisation and dreams, or intuitive knowing. Our body can become the doorway to our connection to the deeper intelligence within us and outside of us. This intelligence communicates to us a deeper understanding, beyond words and in the realm of direct experience.

When we can foster a meditation practise that allows us to sit in silence with our body then sensations can arise that are the communication of this deeper intelligence. We just need to let go of expectations of what forms this must take. We become open to this fluid nature of intelligence in motion and communication becomes better defined as communion.

As we practise this, gain confidence and start to open our definition of intelligence, we become ready to commune with ever broader fields of intelligence. We begin to access nature consciousness and even planetary level consciousness (communion with plants, trees, animals and the elements). This in turn becomes a doorway to opening to the solar system consciousness of our neighbouring planets and sun (linking with other planetary consciousness and understating how they affect our lives on earth). We can open to galactic level consciousness and prepare better to encounter the intelligence of other life forms that are waiting for us to reach the next stage of our awakening. These aspects of intelligence are part of the frequency of consciousness even if they are on a different bandwidth to our everyday waking experience.

So, through coming deeper into our body and listening to the messages it has for us, we develop our capacity for a wider range of communication. We did this when we were children. As babies we “read” all sorts of non-verbal communication. We felt so much. Feeling is more than just emotion; it is our capacity for a deeper level of communication with intelligence. An important part of our awakening process is to engage with this practice of broadening our definition of both communication and intelligence and to open to share our lives with the abundance of life around us and within us.
